About the Scholarship
Deeply connected to community.
The Preston Flo Scholarship is a needs-based award created to support African Nova Scotian students from the Preston Township (North Preston, East Preston, Cherry Brook and Lake Loon) who are enrolled and actively participating in The PREP Academy and who are preparing to pursue post-secondary education.
This Scholarship is intended for students who demonstrate a commitment to learning, personal growth, and future planning, whether through academic goals, participation in PREP programming, or engagement within their family and community. It recognizes that learning takes many forms and honours students who show perseverance, curiosity, and a desire to build a strong foundation for their future.
The award provides meaningful financial support to help reduce barriers associated with the transition to post-secondary education, including costs related to tuition, books, residence, or other education-related expenses. In keeping with the legacy of Florence Simmonds, the Preston Flo Scholarship affirms the importance of lifelong learning and investing in young people so they may continue to grow, contribute, and create opportunities for themselves and for generations to come.
